DNOW 2018 – MARCH 9-11TH

WHAT IS DNOW?

“Best weekend in Youth Ministry!”

In its simplest form, a Disciple Now Weekend is a weekend retreat for a youth group on the church grounds & in the community.

But there are a few distinctions that make D-Now Weekends different from a normal retreat. D-Now Weekends are an amazing time where a large portion of the church has the chance to play an important role in our students’ lives.

DISCIPLESHIP ORIENTED

D-Now Weekends put a high premium on discipleship. There are Large Group sessions where a speaker can move the weekend’s theme along from a big-picture perspective. And there are super-intentional Small Group times where students go deeper with their individual small group leaders. It’s a focused time of spiritual growth and application.

HOST HOMES & SMALL GROUPS

“Host Homes” are a key feature of D-Now Weekends. A host home is where a family in the church agrees to host a Small Group for the weekend.

SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

While giving kids a chance to just hangout and enjoy each other’s company definitely has its place, we are dedicating our free time on Saturday to serving the needy in our community. This puts an even greater emphasis on discipleship and helps students understand the importance of living out their faith.

Runks Runkles

Runks has a passion for Christ and a passion for people.  A true evangelist at heart, he has a deep desire to preach the Good News of Jesus Christ to this crazy world we’re living in. Runks is a master at communicating the Gospel with clarity, relevance, and depth. His passion for the Gospel, knowledge of the Word of God, and off the charts energy will inspire your students and adult to love Jesus, follow Jesus, and share Jesus!  He absolutely believes that the power of the Gospel is still the power of Gospel and no matter how crazy antagonistic our culture may seem to be towards the Gospel it is still the power of God for salvation for all people. So Runks, in his own unique way, unashamedly and refreshingly preaches the Gospel with passion and relevance.  However, Runks’ message is not just about getting saved (trusting Christ), it’s about being saved (finding your identity in Christ), living saved (growing in relationship with Christ), and getting more people saved. etc. etc. etc. etc. ad infinitum

Jesus saves y’all!!  Nothing else matters!

Runks was a Youth Minister for 7 years and in 1998 began traveling the country sharing the Gospel to teenagers, college students, and adults. He holds a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and resides in Levelland, Texas.  He and his amazing wife Joanna, have two awesome grown kids.

Guns & Good Company

The name “Guns and Good Company” is actually a title of a chapter out of C.S. Lewis’ book, “Surprised by Joy.” In this book, Lewis talks about his earlier years in life. In this specific chapter, Lewis enlisted in the British army during WWI. In the difficult context of war, his heart grew in love as he was surrounded by “good company.” He states at one point, “memory fills these months with pleasant, transitory, contacts. Every few days, one seemed to meet a scholar, an original, a poet, a cheery buffoon, a raconteur or at least a man of good will.” These encounters helped him not only respect ordinary men, but also cope with the emotional effects of war. In the context of our morally decaying society, we, as believers, understand the importance of having fellow Christ-followers battling alongside us. In the difficult context of having a ruler who demanded his workers worship a false god, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego knew the God they served, and knew they couldn’t serve any other god. They had each other’s backs. How important it is to have fellow laborers!

Each of us have been youth directors at different churches and it has really allowed God to come in and mature our spirits. We had taken a somewhat long break from music and replaced the time with growth. We are excited to get our music in your ears and to have the feeling of performing for y’all once again!

We strive to worship Christ along side you. Our purpose is to make His name great through the songs we sing and the life we lead. We would love to partner with you and/or your church.

The purpose of Maplewood FBC Student Ministry is to lead students to:

KNOW JESUS

Matthew 16:13-15
(Who do you say Jesus is?)
John 14:6 – Jesus told him “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
(who Jesus says He is!)

KNOW DISCIPLESHIP

Acts 2:42 – And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to the prayers.
Luke 14:27 – Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after Me cannot be my disciple.

KNOW FELLOWSHIP

Hebrews 10:24-25 – And let us be concerned about one another in order to promote love and good works, not staying away from our worship meetings, as some habitually do, but encouraging other, and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

MAKE DISCIPLES

Matthew 28:19-20 – Then Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
