Who is the Special Needs Ministry program intended for?
This ministry is for any child age 5-12 with physical, intellectual, or behavioral disabilities. The Special Needs Ministry is provided so that we are able to share God’s Word with children with disabilities and their families. This Ministry is also provided so that parents/guardians may attend service and feel their children are being well cared for.
What do we provide?
If your child’s disability is such that he/she is unable to benefit from participating in a traditional Sunday school classroom, he/she may spend that time in the Special Needs classroom. This classroom will provide:
-sensory and special learning components
-each child with the opportunity to participate at their ability level
-modified lessons comparable to those taught in the traditional classroom
**If your child’s disability is such that he/she can be integrated, he/she may be paired with a Buddy and attend and age-appropriate Sunday school class.
What don’t we provide?
- Behavioral modification programs (but will follow programs in place used by parents and tools provided)
- Medical intervention (only in emergency situations)
What are some examples of diagnoses, which may be appropriate for this Ministry?
Autism, Developmental Delay, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Down’s Syndrome, Mood Disorders, Blind, Deaf, Cancer
